Sunil's Interesting Fact of the Day
About FactMe!

At UNC-Chapel Hill, there were three roommates with three majors: History, Computer Science, and Political Science.

These three guys were often tired of studying their own subjects. To pass the time, they would share something interesting they learned that day in one of their classes:

  • The History major might tell the other 2 guys how July 4th wasn't the real Independence Day.
  • The Political Science major might tell the other 2 guys how things really went down with Rosa Parks (or something about sports).
  • The Computer Science Major might tell the other 2 guys how the name "Yahoo!" is really an acronym and not just some people in Gulliver's Travels.

And on and on... Everyone learning about everything else. Everyone realizing there's so much to know and so little time...

After going their separate ways after college, one of the guys wanted to share this experience with the world. In June 2004, a list of facts started growing on a very simple web page. In December 2004, FactMe! came into its current form, with an interesting fact every day, categorized, and available for voting, searching, linking, or emailing.

:::

These days, the circle has expanded from the 3 roommates to 10,000 (each month) -- all sharing interesting facts through FactMe!, FactMe! AIM, FactMe! Mobile, and the FactOfTheWeek listserv. Then there's the content -- we've gone from 3 college major subjects to 17 unique categories and over 400 facts.

Join in the fun - check FactMe! everyday. Read through the archives. If you hear about something that makes you say Wow, submit it as a fact for consideration on FactMe! And if you're really good, check out the big picture and help fill in facts in the weaker categories. If you have any other ideas or feedback, send email!

Now back to the show. The list of the Top 10 Facts is a great place to start.
